Following its debut in Uganda, the research-based documentary series "Munna Kampala, omanyi Kampala?" ("Citizen of Kampala, do you know Kampala?") traveled to Rwanda for its first international showcase. Exhibited at the historic Kandt House Museum as part of the Kigali Photo Festival, this iteration expanded the project's dialogue across regional borders under the theme "Celebrating Photography from Rwanda and Beyond.
The exhibition showcased selected works from an ambitious 365-day visual research initiative. Running from January 16, 2019, to January 16, 2020, the project acts as a living archive of Kampala’s architectural history by publishing a photograph every single day.
Featured Artworks
Curated by Robinah Nansubuga, the Kigali edition juxtaposed Kampala's built environment and endangered cultural heritage sites with broader East African urban narratives. By presenting these Ugandan stories to Rwandan and international audiences, the exhibition transformed the gallery into a cross-cultural laboratory. It sparked vital conversations on regional preservation, shared urban histories, and the role of contemporary African photography in documenting rapidly changing cities.
