Nature & Landscape Trips

Explore landscapes beyond the city.
Journeys into Uganda’s wild and natural environments, shaped around photography, walking, observation and discovery. From mountains and crater lakes to forests, waterfalls, open savannah and encounters with wild animals, each trip offers a chance to slow down, look closely and experience the landscape differently.

A Photographic Safari & Creative Residency led by Jim Joel

Looking to sharpen your lens in Africa’s most isolated frontier? Beyond documenting this territory for my own practice, I lead specialised photo safaris, creative residencies, and intentional leisure journeys into the Karamoja region.

The Kidepo Visual Expedition is an immersive field experience designed for creators, researchers, and travellers to slow down, traverse the terrain on foot, and connect deeply with its changing landscape ecology.

Whether mapping wild savannah light, studying graphic wildlife forms, or encountering local communities, this residency offers space to engage with Kidepo beyond the conventional safari. Step out of the studio and into the field.

A Photographic Safari & Creative Residency led by Jim Joel

Looking to document the dramatic intersection of volcanic geology and savannah wildlife? Beyond tracking this territory for my own practice, I lead specialised photo safaris and creative residencies into Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The Queen Elizabeth National Park Visual Expedition is an immersive field experience designed for creators, researchers, and travellers to slow down, traverse diverse water channels, and connect deeply with its changing landscape ecology.

Whether tracking the silhouettes of tree-climbing lions in Ishasha, mapping reflections along the Kazinga Channel, or archiving the stark geometries of the Lake Bunyampaka salt pans, this residency offers space to observe, photograph, and engage beyond the conventional safari. Step out of the studio and into the field.

The Fort Portal Cultural Material Expedition
$800.00

A Photographic Safari & Creative Residency led by Jim Joel

Looking to document the raw intersection of pre-colonial craft, royal lineage, and material anthropology? Born out of the Bulungi Bwansi visual research project showcased during the KLA ART 24 festival, I lead specialized creative residencies exploring the tactile heritage of western Uganda.

The Fort Portal Cultural Material Expedition is an immersive field experience tracking a single, historic road that connects the intricate craft of local basket weavers, the living heritage of the Tooro Kingdom, and the sacred architecture of royal burial grounds.

Tailored for cultural researchers, documentarians, and landscape enthusiasts, this residency studies how master weavers like Patrick Tungo Apuuli harvest natural botanical dyes to thread community memory into structural form. Step out of the studio and into the field.

"Communication was top-notch, and the outcome was better than imagined. Jim Joel showed us the road trip was not only about the landscapes and nature we encountered, but also about the amazing souvenirs, crafts, and jewelry we picked up at local shops. Stopping for these authentic pieces added a beautiful layer of material culture to our journey. A great experience all around."
