One Day, I Will Fly Again

The past few months have been about reorganising my thoughts, but also thinking about where I want to put those thoughts. Being a curator, a travel artist, and an archivist are roles I am slowly growing into. At times, they feel like separate worlds, each asking for different things from me. I have been trying to understand how they can exist together, and how best to give each of them space.

So, as I make my first post on this new site, I find myself wondering which photograph has drawn me in the most. More than any single image, though, it has been the experience of putting my portfolio together that has stayed with me.

I felt comfortable including a landscape page. Once in a while, or perhaps always, I find myself wandering into the wild, camera in hand, looking for stories beyond the city.

My drone is currently grounded. The batteries can no longer be replaced easily, and with that, a tool that opened up an entirely different way of seeing is slowly becoming obsolete. Perhaps that is why I keep returning to this image of Lake Bunyampaka. It is one of my fondest photographs, and perhaps my best made with that drone.

Aerial view of Lake Bunyampaka in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Western Uganda.

For now, I will leave it here, simply to savour that moment: the view, the flight, and the feeling of being somewhere above a landscape that I might otherwise never have seen this way.

I know that one day I will fly again somewhere and document more of these wild landscapes.

Perhaps this moment is simply about sharpening my tools, reorganising my thoughts, and figuring out how best to share these stories.

Before I venture into the wild once again.

One day.
